Awards Over $34,000 in Cash Prizes and Donates $19,000

The 2nd Annual Publix Mad Dog Mandich Fishing Classic, presented by Sharp Business Systems, May 1st and 2nd, 2009, was a huge success. One hundred and fifty-five anglers on 33 boats participated in the tournament and enjoyed a fantastic weekend of fun for the entire family.

The one-day fishing tournament, which benefited Shake-a-Leg Miami and the Coastal Conservation Association, targeted dolphin, kingfish, tuna and wahoo. The event kicked off Friday evening with a Sharp Business Systems Kick-Off Party and Captain’s meeting at Texas de Brazil. Anglers received tournament shirts and hats, along with angler bags stuffed with goodies.

On Saturday, the teams headed out of Government Cut for a day of fishing. The competition was strong, but after all the fish were weighed in, the winner was team Dive-version with 99.8 points. The team took home total winnings of $23,227.50. This was for the $15,000 Top Boat prize, 1st Place Fun Fish Fortune for $3,612.50, $1,615 for Double Decker and $3,000 for the top place Dolphin caught by Leo Suarez, top Kingfish and Tuna both caught by J.J Glover. Second place was captured for the second year in a row by the Thomas Flyer with 81.3 points, who took home a total of $4,167.50. Rick Thomas, aboard the Thomas Flyer, took home with 81.3 points. Third place was Native Son with 65.6 points, who also won 3rd place Funfish Fortune.

Top Lady Angler was Lisa Flack for the second year in a row, who won it with the top wahoo at 14.4 lbs. Top Junior was captured by Tyler Sherwood with 26.6 points.

After the weigh-in and dock party, anglers, sponsors and guests enjoyed a fantastic dinner at the beautiful Texas de Brazil. During the awards ceremony the Mad Dog Mandich Fishing Classic was proud to donate $16,000 to Shake-a-Leg Miami and $3,000 to the Coastal Conservation Association.

The Publix Mad Dog Mandich Fishing Classic will host its Florida Keys tournament on October 16th and 17th, 2009 at the Chesapeake Beach Resort in Islamorada, Florida.
